Peer Interview

The peer interview assignment was to interview a classmate and provide a description of him or her. In this assignment, we had to learn how to ask meaningful questions regarding our interviewees likes and dislikes, interests, and ambitions, among other personal things. Before the assignment, my skills in interviewing were certainly not as advanced as they are now. It was difficult to come up with the questions to ask my interview partner, Wyatt Kuebler, at the very start of this project. But after the first round of interviews, it had become much easier. Upon completing my first draft, I had realized that it was lacking the details I had hoped to include. So, when the time came to do the final draft, I came to class with more questions for Wyatt. These questions went into much greater detail that what the above accomplished. For this assignment, it was quite easy to interview and observe Wyatt, as I lived at the Towers with him. This also gave me an advantage over other students, as I could observe my peer in his natural habitat. For this assignment, I figured that if I was writing about one of my friends, and since I know so much about him, I should try to write it with a mixture of myself and his. Wyatt is a lighthearted and fun guy, and I wanted that to be strongly reflected in my paper. Upon writing this, I learned that I enjoy writing with personality. I wanted the readers to have a laugh. This was because Wyatt had given me plenty, and because he’s the main focus, it would be wrong to not include that. I carried this new idea of writing with a light heartedness to my future papers as well. This can be seen in my Self Evaluation, and the Field Observation assignment.

A week before classes start, as I was moving into the Towers, I met this guy, who at the time, I didn’t think would be one of my best friends. We were both architecture majors, so we already had that much in common, but apart from that, I didn’t really know much about him. And as we hanged out more, I learned more about him. In class, I learned that Wyatt Keebler was more talkative than I, and during our interviews, He was better at asking questions and I was better at answering them. By the end of this essay, the reader will learn as much about Wyatt Keebler as I do.

To start this off, a description of Wyatt is necessary. He is an about 5’6”, white boy with darker blond hair and glasses. He has the body type of a runner, as this is something he used to do. Wyatt has an inability to grow facial hair (as he has told me) and only has a bit of stubble on his chin. The most unique part of Wyatt is his hair. For some reason it has a lot of support, making it take very strange forms. It’s covering his eyes in the morning and makes him look like an “internet eboy” and during the day it is usually above his forehead in a literal pile. His hair can also be viewed tied atop his head with a hair tie.

I am a highly detailed oriented person, and so during my time being Wyatt’s friend, I observed a lot of different things he does that he probably doesn’t even recognize. We all perform actions and display patterns that we don’t even recognize. But what are Wyatt’s behavioral patterns? My friend group at the Towers is relatively high energy, and Wyatt isn’t an outlier in the group. Wyatt expresses many high energy aspects in his speech and behavior. Some of the most common examples are his frequent yelling, shouting and noise making, sarcastic mood, and very frequent laughter. As for his physical patterns, Wyatt is also high energy. In times where we are yelling, Wyatt my also slightly use his hands when he talks. Another thing Wyatt is reputable for his strange ability to randomly, and accidentally hurt himself. In my time with Wyatt, I’ve seen him scrape his face, arms and back, accidentally stab his palm, scrape his knee skateboarding, burn himself with lighters, and accidentally cut his fingers. Wyatt can also forget things like his keycard and wallet frequently.

Another interesting aspect of Wyatt is his body language. He is a very fun and relaxed person and usually has a smile on his face. One of the only times there isn’t a smile on his face is when he hurts himself. As for other body language, he intensely laughs with his eyes, they squint every time he smiles. One of his most strange physical habits is how he frequently stands on furniture like chairs, desks, tables and anything else he can. This is because he “wants to get a different perspective” or to “establish his dominance in the room.”

When it comes to Wyatt’s words, he has some very peculiar things to say. Some of the most iconic Wyatt quotes are from last semester. In one day, Wyatt made the legendary comments that will be remembered throughout history. The first is “water is like fun butter” another being “That’s a mangled tet of knots”. To this day, we still don’t know what the word “tet” means.  And on Halloween, he yelled “I wanna go home!” This was after falling on his face for the second time that week. While writing this essay, I asked Wyatt if he could remember anything else funny or interesting, he’s said, reminding him about the past three. His response was “uhhhh yeah everything, I don’t think I’ve ever said anything right, ever”.

During our interview session, I had the opportunity to ask Wyatt some question’s that we don’t normally talk about. Some basic things about Wyatt that he told me in his interview is that he likes cats, his favorite things to do are draw, sleep, eat, hangout and think he’s better than people. When I asked if he enjoys going to school, he said “I guess, for the most part”. His favorite thing to do would be going to the beach, and his least favorite thing to do is seeing his elderly relatives. I also asked him some random questions about digital media. His favorite video game is Pokémon, he’s only heard about the famous YouTube creator Filthy Frank and when I asked him if he was hyped for the release of the film Shrek 5, he said he was not.

While conducting the interviews, Wyatt and I were very comfortable with each other already. Being in a group with Wyatt was both a convenience and an inconvenience, as it made it easy to do work, but we also distracted each other. And also, since we’re already so comfortable with each other, it was hard to pick up his patterns, since I became used to it as a normal.

To conclude my analysis of Wyatt Keebler, he is a really fun dude. I’ve had only great experiences with him. He is a very interesting and creative person, while being pretty strange and unique at the same time. And now you know Wyatt Kuebler as I do.
